Maulshree tree at La Martiniere Girls’ College, Lucknow
There is a Maulshree tree at the main gate of La Martiniere Girls’ College Lucknow. Madan Chand, the gatekeeper came to know about the benefit of Maulshree fruit for bone health from an elderly visitor to the school, a long time ago. When the tree gives fruit in summer and through the rainy season, he makes it a point to chew a few of them every day.
The staff and students of La Martiniere Girls’ College value their rich, green heritage.
Maulshree’s botanical name is Mimusops elengi and it is also known as Maulsari and Bakul. The beautiful Maulshree tree was planted extensively on Delhi roads in the Mughal period, for its beauty, shade and scented flowers.
