Ramakrishna Paramhansa –Love incarnate
A God-conscious man of the nineteenth century, Swami Ramakrishna Paramhansa was the light that led the world from its fragmented and fanatic version of spirituality to a progressive, secular and harmonious truth of all religions through his direct spiritual experience. On his birthday we pay respects to the master and his equally able disciple, Swami Vivekanand who introduced India to the west.
Mahatma Gandhi, Sri Aurobindo, Romain Rolland saluted him as a God-sent visitor to earth with a transformative message of Truth. In his God-intoxication he proved to the common man that love for God is the true qualification. He faithfully practiced the spiritual practices of different religions and realized that all of them led to the same goal. His exemplary discipline and simple explanations enriched the rich and poor, the highly intellectual and the layman alike. He found all religions as the revelation of God in diverse aspects so as to satisfy the varied demands of human minds through cultures, distances and lifestyles. Like different photographs of a building taken from different angles, different religions give us different perspectives, but the building remains the same.
He reinforced the timeless message of Sanatan dharma ‘Ekoham Bahusyam’ unity in diverse perspectives. Therein lies the strength of India and the world. We need such divine interventions as in the form of Swami Ramakrishna Paramhansa to take us back to our roots, and transgress manmade borders of an infinite variety in matters of spirituality. True spirituality begins and ends with the heart. Love for an ideal expands as Universal love, and strengthens bonds of mutual progress.
